“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to chose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom”

Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety

Anxiety is many things, affecting people in different ways depending physical and hormonal circumstances and intricately linked to your beliefs and values.

What anxiety is not is a noun; ”it” is not actually a “thing” that you catch; it is not something happening to you and it is not necessarily a negative, it is uncomfortable, but that doesn’t necessarily make it “bad."

Anxiety is a verb. It is a doing – it is a doing. And what this means is that you can learn to “do” anxiety in a different way. Below are a few golden nuggets to help you get back in the driver’s seat of managing your anxiety.

Depression

Depression is the outcome of a combination of lifestyle factors, negative psychological patterns, trauma, bio-chemical reactions and genetic predisposition.

How depression is managed, has to be dependent on the individual and their particular circumstances. Using an integrated approach, real changes can occur. Step one is understanding what is happening.

Trauma

Trauma can be a once off event or ongoing experiences. Regardless, it can become cemented in our mind and body. Perceived threats or emotional experiences can be just as damaging as lived experiences. It can be treated, but first it must be understood.

Relationships

Life Lessons

“Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes.”

Jung, as cited in Adler & Jaffé, 1973, p. 33

Our emotions are a huge part of who we are and how we are able to show up in the world. Influenced by culture and deep seated personal belief systems, our feelings can alter our perceptions of reality and even manifest psychological symptoms. It’s best we take ownership to understand them more if we want to live a great life.
